I was twelve years old when the man at the eye glass store handed me my first pair of glasses and said, “Look how pretty you look.” I stared at my reflection, trying to get used to the new image looking back at me.

“You do look very pretty,” my mom assured me. Then she turned to the man and asked, “We never knew there was a problem with her eyes before, how do we know these glasses help?”

“Honey, take off the glasses and read the sign on the wall with all the letters for your mom,” he instructed.

“E, N, B, Q , D, R?” I answered and noticed both my mom and he had very strange expressions on their face.

“Okay, now put the glasses on and try again.”

“E, H, R, F, Y, W.” I said.

“Now you got it!” He cheered. “That time you got all of them right.”

When I left the store, for the first time in my life I saw there was a clock on top of the oldest building in town….

From that day on, I had a love/hate relationship with glasses. I fought wearing them at first. Then I loved them. Then I got contacts. Then I got really cool glasses I loved. Then I got Lasik. And now that I don’t need glasses anymore, I am always admiring other people’s glasses…. Sometimes I actually miss wearing them….

I have worn glasses since the boy was little and tried contacts before but didn’t like it too much. I switch back between my sunglasses and regular glasses and am always on the look out for some new frames that might suit me. I love the rimless/frameless pair (#SD1210). It looks like and barely there.

I started wearing glasses at 7….you don’t know you are not seeing the world like everyone else.
Thank goodness a teacher noticed me squinting even in the front row!
Now I am so old that my eyeballs have shrunk up from the football type to nice and round – so NO GLASSES!!!

I miss them, they cover a multitude of sins. Thinking of getting some plain glass lenses.

  Mrs. B – the same thing happened to me! I had no idea I couldn’t see – and I never was tested in school. I would just sit close to the board…. my mom figured it out when I never was able to see the funny bumper stickers – I guess in the 80′s they were good for something

Gosh! I can’t remember the first time I wore glasses as it seems I was born with them! LOL!

I remember getting glasses when I was in the 8th grade, and being shocked when I saw the swirls from the eraser on the chalkboard. LOL. I wear contacts when I play baseball, but almost always wear glasses at work and in “regular life.”

Mischief would look chiefly in these. But really I have been wearing glasses since 30. I could not see down the hallways at school (I’m a teacher) had to give in for safety of the students.

I was in third grade when I wore my first pair of CAT glasses. I was absolutly appalled, but now I think they are Oh-So-Cool & sexy.
